And so where does that leave us? Are we to simply give up on there being a way of providing a truly meaningful advance warning of these events, consistently accurate enough to allow adequate time to plan for the event and it’s repercussions? As we have seen, much has already been done in this area, seeking to give affected persons time to seek proper shelter, at the very minimum. But can we do more… much more?
The Big One May Reveal This
I have been told, since I was a child, “The Big One” was coming. Growing up, we were told in our science classes it would surely occur someday. We listened and absorbed the knowledge that someday, in the future, it must occur, but we were told no one knew exactly when. According to the averages of major seismic events along the southern stretch of the San Andreas Fault, my teachers informed me it was long past due. As time has progressed, we continue to wait, and wait, with trepidation, for the inevitable day it will actually happen.
But as yet, this stretch of the San Andreas remains strong, with its latent energy increasing as time continues to pass, with no release in sight for this event. Still, experts are just as unsure as they were decades ago, when I first learned about this historical soon-to-be event. There have been forecasts out of NASA, JPL and USGS in recent years which raise the likelihood of certain magnitude seismic events covering this geographic area, over a given period of time. These do, in some cases at least, serve to make it feel as if the likelihood is being brought closer to home. But I believe we should consider the more immediate possibility, and that is for this event occurring sooner.
I’ve read a number of articles which discuss the increased possibility of 2018 being the year of The Big One, due to the occurrence of certain events, seismic, astronomical and other (and to be fair, I’ve read about as many which discount the reasons behind these). However, nothing I’ve read is able to pin down a (more) specific timeframe. While I am not a scientist, nor geologist, seismologist or related, by profession, I would nevertheless like to put forward my theory for this event occurring soon, very soon, and within a specific window of time.
On or around June 28, 2019, it is my belief during this time “The Big One”, which has awaited Southern California for so long, will occur. I am still attached to this one particular date, but obviously if it is not accurate, I will be forced to fall back on the timeframes previously mentioned in the 1st edition (see “The Latest”), and as discussed further in this chapter’s Prologue. This could mean extending the date out as far as October 5, 2019, and is unacceptable to me in terms of being able to provide more accuracy. Unfortunately, I have no other information available at this time. Should that change however, I will at the very least provide an update to this book on the website. (For future updates and additional information, please view “The Latest” page. While I understand there is little reason for anyone to give credence to my opinion, I have endeavored to develop a backstory within the first chapter of this book, Future Dreams, and the Prologue for this chapter in the 2nd edition, containing elements I feel are of the most significant relevance, in an attempt to explain the reasons for this pursuit.
